Introduction

The junior band is taken by Samantha McClumpha who has had the pleasure of being musical director since 2001.  The aim of this band is to encourage players to learn, improve and be confident to progress on to our Youth band where they will be competing in competitions, playing at local events and also going on tour.

The junior band is the first step for those who want to learn a brass instrument.  We will teach you how to play and how to read music and also introduce you to having a great social life within the brass banding world.  We have tutors on hand at rehearsals to give individual and small group tuition. We also have tutors sitting in during the main practice.

The junior band performs at joint concerts with the youth and concert bands at different times throughout the year as well as performing on their own at during Christmas and summer.

We rehearse on a Monday evening 6:30 – 8:15pm at Rob John Hall in Narborough.  Our practice is split into two half’s with a break in between where you can get sweets and socialise with your friends.

Musical Director

Sam McClumpha has been involved within the organisation for over 27 years and took up the post of Musical Director of the junior band in early 2000.

Since 2000 Sam has helped dozens of young children develop their skills of playing and reading music, most of whom have gone on to playing with the youth band in national competitions and beyond.  She loves seeing all the players’ progress and continuing to improve.

She also continues to play the tenor horn within the organisation for the concert band and also the senior band when help is needed.
